Seattle, Washington

Seattle setting sun

I recently moved away from Seattle or “Seatown” as natives fondly call it.

My emotions were mixed about leaving.  On one hand, I really came to love Seattle and was sad to be leaving but on the other, I was happy to be headed back to Colorado.

Seattle is a truly fantastic town for technology, business and a well-rounded lifestyle.  It has a hip, liberal, laid back feel to it but it’s also full of cerebral and highly passionate folks.  The technology and digital media landscape is vibrant and, perhaps, only second to San Fran in terms of the sheer volume of opportunities.  Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and Rob Glaser obviously deserve much of the credit for that.  If one can mentally work past the weather, or even appreciate it for the occasional and glorious sun breaks, as well as the highly productive climate, it’s the perfect place to live in many ways.  I feel like, in some senses, the Seattle climate is a metaphor for life in many ways–it doesn’t often go the way you want but, if you try to make the most of it, it’s often beautiful and it rewards you when you least expect it.

That said, it’s nice to be back in Colorado.  I’m still not certain I’ve figured out yet what that yellow orb in the sky is however.  And, while the weather never really bothered me too much in Seattle, the sports scene is a bit depressing there.  I’ll miss Seattle though and look forward to returning back to it as often as possible for ski adventures, work or to see many of the great friends I made there.
